CLEA · NetZero

Engineering that runs on sunlight.

Our studio and every site visit are powered by an on-site solar array, a home battery, and a solar-charged electric car. The energy below is generated on our own roof — so the work we do quietly avoids the grid electricity and petrol it would otherwise have burned. This page is a live, honest meter of that, not a marketing estimate.

Energy use breakdown

all self-generated
Office ( kWh) Driving ( kWh)

Office energy rises live while the engineer hub is open. Driving energy updates whenever a site visit is logged.

Carbon avoided

Office — vs UK grid (0.177 kg/kWh)
Driving — vs average petrol car
Total avoided
mature trees' worth of CO₂ a year

How it's powered

  1. Solar arrayRooftop PV generates the electricity through the day.
  2. Home batteryStores it so the studio keeps running on sun after dark.
  3. Office & EVPowers the desk and charges the car for every site visit.

Because we both generate and use this energy, the figures here are avoided emissions — what a conventional grid-and-petrol setup would have emitted for the same work.

Assumptions & caveats

  • Office energy is metered live from a modelled office load — equipment wattages shaped by time of day, weekday/weekend and season — built and edited in the engineer NetZero hub, replacing the old flat 100 W assumption. It remains an estimate, not a smart-meter reading.
  • "Carbon saved" is avoided emissions versus a conventional baseline (UK grid electricity + an average petrol car), not a claim that the activity is carbon-negative. Solar/manufacturing lifecycle emissions are not netted off.
  • Emission factors are the UK DESNZ/DEFRA 2025 set (grid 0.177 kgCO₂e/kWh; average petrol car ≈0.27 kgCO₂e/mile) and are revised annually.
  • The tree equivalence (≈21 kg CO₂ absorbed per mature tree per year) is a familiar illustration only, not a formal offset.

Embodied carbon — schemes going forward

Total embodied carbon (A1–A5)

Pooled across every project whose scheme is going ahead. Figures are aggregated and anonymised — no project name, number, address or client is shown here.

By project type

No embodied-carbon data yet.

By structural element

No embodied-carbon data yet.

By material

No embodied-carbon data yet.

Embodied carbon uses the IStructE A1–A5 methodology and each project's chosen scheme at its most developed design stage. This is an early, high-level view — a fuller breakdown will follow.
